VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT (ANDREWS UNIVERSITY)

This acknowledgement (the “Agreement”) is entered into by and between his/her participant signing (the “Volunteer”) this agreement and Andrews University, a non-profit educational corporation with a primary location in Berrien Springs, Michigan (the “University”).

Whereas, Andrews University feels compelled to respond to the enormous needs whether they be spiritual, personal or developmental, both within and outside the Seventh-day Adventist community; and whereas, the University’s Center for Youth Evangelism has agreed to help coordinate many of the volunteer activities and logistics in and around International and domestic mission trips;

Now, therefore, the Volunteer and the University agree as follows:

1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK. Although there is always a risk of terrorism and other causes of harm (whether accidental or intentional) no matter where an individual goes, and no matter what she/he does, the Volunteer recognizes and acknowledges that there are risks inherent in her/his decision to volunteer in and around any given location. Those risks include, but are not limited to: property damage and/or loss; physical exertion; illness and disease; minor bodily injury; severe bodily injury; and death. The Volunteer affirms that she/he is participating in this volunteer effort with the knowledge of the risks involved and that she/he hereby does accept any and all risks, including those not specified above.

2. HOLD HARMLESS. The Volunteer agrees to hold harmless Andrews University, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, volunteers and assigns (collectively, the “University Releasees”) from and against all claims arising out of or resulting from her/his participation in the volunteer effort. A “claim” as used in this agreement means any claim, suit, action, damage, financial loss, or expense, including, but not limited to attorney’s fees, resulting from participation in the volunteer effort. The Volunteer’s agreement to hold the University Releasees harmless extends to any and all claims, except those that arise out of the sole gross negligence or willful misconduct of the University Releasees. The University agrees to hold harmless the Volunteer from and against all claims arising out of or resulting from her/his participation in the volunteer effort. A “claim,” as used in this agreement, means any claim, suit, action, damage, financial loss, or expense, including, but not limited to attorney’s fees, resulting from her/his participation in the volunteer effort. The University’s agreement to hold the Volunteer harmless extends to any and all claims, except those that arise out of the negligence or willful misconduct of the Volunteer.

3. STATUS AS A VOLUNTEER. The parties acknowledge and agree that the Volunteer is not, by virtue of her/his participation in this volunteer effort, to be treated as an employee or agent of the University. The parties acknowledge and agree that any injury or harm suffered by the Volunteer shall not be covered by University insurance coverage, including but not limited to, the University’s Worker’s Compensation Insurance.

4. ADVICE TO VOLUNTEERS. The Volunteer acknowledges that she/he has been made aware of the opportunity to purchase short-term medical and other insurance coverage through Adventist Risk Management Services.

CRUISE WITH A MISSION POLICIES

REGISTRATION AND BILLING

Each Volunteer must complete a separate registration form. Parents bringing children on the trip must also register each child separately.  The Center for Youth Evangelism and/or Andrews University has the right to charge the current registration fee to the credit card supplied during registration at any time.  This charge will show on a billing statement as "Cruise with a Mission."  The cruise line will charge their fare separately.  Rates are "per person" and subject to change until booked.

CANCELLATION

Canceled bookings must be arranged with the cruise company directly and communicated to Cruise with a Mission. The Cruise with a Mission Registration Fee is non-refundable. Registered Volunteers canceling may request a tax receipt for the registration fee amount as a donation to Cruise with a Mission.

CHILDREN (VOLUNTEERS YOUNGER THAN 18)

Cruise with a Mission, including its worship programming, small groups, breakouts, and mission projects, is designed for young adults. Cruise with a Mission does not provide children’s programming on-board or at the missions sites. The cruise line typically has on-board options for children. Parents and legal guardians should contact the cruise line directly to make these arrangements, prior to boarding the ship. If children remain onboard at a port, Holland America requires at least one parent or legal guardian remain with the child for the duration of the time at port. Because of the types of projects, children may not participate in the missions portion of the trip. Children will not be charged a registration fee and may purchase promotional items such as water bottle, t-shirt, etc. for a fee.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS/INSURANCE

The Volunteer is responsible for their own travel arrangements to the home port of call. Travel insurance is highly recommended for the duration of the trip and is the responsibility of the Volunteer to obtain if desired.

PHOTOGRAPHS/VIDEO

Cruise with a Mission reserves the right to take photographs and video of the Volunteer for the duration of a trip.  These images may appear in Cruise with a Mission printed or online publications and/or marketing materials.
